DAY 1 : Arrival in Leh and Acclimatization
Arrival: Fly into Leh’s Kushok Bakula Rimpochee Airport, where you’ll be picked up and transferred to your hotel.Rest: As Leh sits at a high altitude (~11,500 ft), it’s essential to rest and give your body time to acclimatize to avoid altitude sickness. Drink plenty of water, avoid physical exertion, and take it easy for the day. Optional Short Walks: If you feel up to it, you can take a short, easy stroll around the hotel area in the evening to get accustomed to the climate.Overnight Stay: Leh
DAY 2 : Leh Local Sightseeing
Start Time: After breakfast, start your day of exploration in Leh.Sightseeing Highlights:Leh Palace: A 17th-century palace built in the Tibetan style, offering panoramic views of Leh town and the surrounding mountains.Shanti Stupa: A stunning white-domed Buddhist stupa located on a hilltop, ideal for scenic views and photography, especially at sunset. Thiksey Monastery: One of Ladakh’s largest monasteries, known for its resemblance to the Potala Palace in Tibet and its impressive 49-foot statue of Maitreya Buddha. Shey Palace: Once the summer capital of Ladakh, this ancient palace offers breathtaking views of the Indus Valley. Hall of Fame: A museum maintained by the Indian Army showcasing the culture, history, and bravery of the Ladakhi people and Indian soldiers. Leh Market: In the evening, explore Leh’s bustling local market, where you can buy Ladakhi handicrafts, jewelry, pashmina shawls, and souvenirs. Overnight Stay: Leh
DAY 3 : Leh to Hanle
Distance: 250 km (Approx. 8-9 hours drive) Route: Leh – Upshi – Nyoma – Loma – Hanle Start Time: Depart from Leh early in the morning. Drive Overview: Drive along the Indus River, passing by Upshi and Chumathang, which is known for its hot springs. Stop at Nyoma for tea/snacks and enjoy the scenic views along the route. Cross the Loma Bridge (where your permits will be checked) and head towards Hanle, a remote village near the Indo-China border. Sightseeing in Hanle: Hanle Monastery: This 17th-century monastery is perched on a hill, offering stunning views of the Hanle valley. Indian Astronomical Observatory: One of the world’s highest observatories (4,500 meters), famous for its pristine, pollution-free sky. You may visit if it is open for public access. Stargazing: Hanle is renowned for its crystal-clear skies, perfect for stargazing. If the skies are clear, you’ll witness a magnificent display of stars.Overnight Stay: Homestay or guesthouse in Hanle (basic accommodations with warm Ladakhi hospitality).
DAY 4 : Hanle to Umling La Pass
Distance: 80 km (Approx. 3-4 hours drive one way) Start Time: Start your drive early in the morning to Umling La Pass. Drive Overview: The road to Umling La takes you through some of the most remote and stunning landscapes in Ladakh. The route can be challenging with steep gradients and rough terrain, but the views are breathtaking. Umling La (19,024 ft): Standing at the highest motorable road in the world, take in the majestic, panoramic views of the Changthang Plateau and towering peaks around you. Spend some time enjoying the surreal environment and taking photographs. The sense of achievement here is immense! Return to Hanle: After spending time at Umling La, drive back to Hanle. dinner at your guesthouse in Hanle. Overnight Stay: Hanle
DAY 5 : Hanle to Leh
Distance: 250 km (Approx. 8-9 hours drive) Route: Hanle – Nyoma – Loma – Leh Start Time: After breakfast, begin your return journey to Leh. Drive Overview: Retrace your steps through the remote, beautiful terrain along the Indus River. Pass by Nyoma and Upshi and enjoy the changing scenery as you approach Leh. DAY 6 : Departure from Leh
Airport Transfer: After breakfast, transfer to Leh Airport for your onward journey. Meals: Breakfast at the hotel.
